VTF Viewer & PNG Export — Frames, Mipmaps and Alpha
Inspect supported Source 1 desktop VTF textures locally, export real PNG pixels and create a one-frame RGBA8888 VTF copy with alpha or axis edits.
VTF Texture Desk
Original preserved. New VTF is one selected frame in RGBA8888, with explicit metadata losses.
Supported scope: Local pixels · 64 MiB · desktop VTF 7.0–7.5 · 2D only

Which VTF formats can I open?
Source 1 desktop VTF 7.0–7.5, depth 1 without the cubemap flag. Codecs: RGBA8888, ABGR8888, RGB888, BGR888, RGB565, I8, IA88, A8, ARGB8888, BGRA8888, BGRX8888, DXT1, DXT1_ONEBITALPHA, DXT3 and DXT5. Other codecs, console and Source 2 files are refused.
Does the VTF output preserve the whole original file?
No. It is a new one-frame RGBA8888 VTF 7.2 with the selected frame’s existing mip chain. Other frames, thumbnail, custom resources and special flags are omitted. The unchanged original has a separate download.
Are the preview controls the same as output selection?
The input form determines the main PNG and VTF downloads. Preview selectors inspect other frames, mips and channels without changing those files. Download preview PNG saves the currently shown channels.
Does editing alpha regenerate mipmaps or fix normal maps?
No. The selected alpha and pixel-flip operations are applied independently to each existing mip. There is no resampling, normal-vector adjustment, normal-map renormalization or shader simulation.
Will the VMT checker find missing textures automatically?
No. It lists literal expected paths, without accessing your folders, fetching references, resolving includes or evaluating proxies. The original VMT is not rewritten.
What are the file and processing limits?
64 MiB VTF input/output, 4096 pixels per side, 8,388,608 top-level pixels, 64 frames and 32 resource entries. Mip count must fit the dimensions. Optional VMT is UTF-8 up to 256 KiB with at most 10,000 tokens and 16 nested levels. Only the selected frame is decoded for the main export.
